Rainy Weather

Today has been a pretty uneventful day. This morning our guide took us to the Lanzhou Provincial Museum . We saw the skeleton of a baby elephant that was "thousands" of years old, Chinese pottery, the WuWei Galloping Horse and all kinds of other fun stuff. The WuWei Horse is the most valuable object found in this museum. Our original plan was to go to the local zoo and park but it rained most of the day and was very cold. We did get to eat at a local restaurant that is famous for its beef noodles. They were served with hot sauce, vinegar, yak meat, pickled fresh cucumber and some shredded white vegetable that we didn't recognize. The noodles were pretty good, but I have to say Mama, I sure miss your home cooking! We didn't get any pictures of the restaurant. We left both our cameras in the car because of the rain.

We spent about 1 1/2 hours this afternoon trying to get Abby to sleep, and boy! is she a fighter! She would almost get to sleep and pop awake wanting "sugar" or to play Patty Cake. How could we resist? She's just too cute! Not long after we got her to sleep the phone rang and woke us up so I just stayed up. As Julie says about decaf coffee, "What's the point?!" But here's the clincher....Abby slept until after 6pm and we just let her sleep. She got up just long enough to eat and went right back to bed. I'm sure her little mind is trying to process all the changes. We turned the news on this afternoon and she completely ignored the television but quickly came to attention when I changed to the channel to a Chinese-speaking channel. And we noticed yesterday that she was a little upset when we were getting her ready. She didn't cry, but just wasn't her usual chipper self. We both felt so sad for her because we figured she thought we were about to "give her away" again. If she only knew how hard we fought to get her and how much we love her, she would never ever have to be afraid. Just hold on, Abby, it's all going to be okay.

ok, more prayers are on the way that God's peace will fill her little heart and mind so she will know this new love and family is "forever" and that she is safe.
