Here are some gifts we bought for Abby yesterday. From top going clockwise: WuWei Galloping Horse, Round Gourd with Painted Chinese Ladies, Gansu Playing Cards, Abby's Chinese Name on Rice Paper, Lanzhou Post Cards, Pottery Jar with little suns painted around it (symbolizes protection) and the number 8 painted around the bottom (symbolizes "new beginnings"), Here's an interesting fact about Abby: Her middle name Rae means "wise protection" so we thought the jar with suns on it was a good choice! And the last 5 things are gourds with a mountain scene and a story painted on it. We asked our guide what it meant and he said it was a good story about going to the mountains and relaxing.
2 dresses we bought for Abby for next year.
Abby and her Daddy.
Poverty like this may be found only a few yards from a 5 star hotel.
This grandfather and grandmother (not pictured) stopped to talk to us and they were so nice to Abby. A moment later the grandfather exposed his grandson's "pee pee" to show us that it was a boy and wanted to know if Abby was a boy too. For those of you who don't know, most of the babies in China wear "split pants" and no diaper. We haven't figured out how that works out for the adults yet, but apparently the Chinese have their system down pat. Personally, I'll stick with Pampers!

I am so enjoying keeping up with your journey. Glad all is going well. Abby is beautiful. I saw the split pants thing in action in Guangzhou. A grandmotherly woman pulled them open, spatted the baby on the butt and held her down near the street drain. The first spat was not enough and she did it again and I think that brought results. :)
Thanks for all the wonderful photos and narration of your time together in China. It is so good to hear of Abby's adjustment to you so we can know how to pray. She is just a beautiful bundle of joy and you can see it in every photo.
Jawanna, Michael and Abby,
I am Peppi's sister, Brenda, and I just wanted you to know that we are keeping all of you in our prayers and we are thankful that everything is going so well. May God keep you in His loving arms.
What fun!!!!! I'll bet it was hard to resisit the temptation to buy out the store - looks like you found a good one. The split pants thing is a hoot! I guess that's one way to cut the budget (and save the environment at the same time) but would hate to know what they do about #2:)
Abby looks so happy and content. You and Michael are just beaming and it all seems so natural. God's divine providence is evident.
Much love to you guys!
Jeanne
